Press release – 27th March 2014

Mini iPad for Amber as winner of Estate Agency Project

The Preston office of Woods Bryce Baker, the well established and highly reputed Torbay estate agency, has awarded prizes to children at Preston Primary School for their work on a project, which was set for those in Year 5 and 6 back in January.

Woods Bryce Baker teamed up with Preston Primary School to set around 90 children, aged 9-11, a project, which required them to produce a set of property particulars on their own home – complete with descriptions and photographs, as well as their own estate agency logo design – and present it to the agents.

The children voted for their favourite four in each of the three classes and the shortlisted 12 presented their properties to Matheu Gladman, Assistant Sales Manager and Amanda Ayshford, Senior Sales Negotiator from Woods Bryce Baker, at the school.

Matheu and Amanda scored each project on criteria such as persuasive writing, presentation and confidence. Then they invited one child from each class to spend a couple of hours with them at the Preston office, to be an estate agent, learning what sells a house and how to measure and market a property.

Based on the three children’s property particulars, presentation skills and their time in the office, Matheu and Amanda selected who would win the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes, which were then awarded in a school assembly.

In 3rd and 2nd places were Ella Knapman and Olivia Jackson, both aged 9, who won £20 and £25 in WHSmith vouchers. The winner, Amber Harding, also aged 9, was thrilled to be presented with a spectacular iPad Mini for her winning project.

Matheu said: “The children came up with some really fantastic ideas and their logo designs were brilliant. Their presentation skills were excellent and they were all really enthusiastic about becoming an estate agent for a short time. It was really difficult for us to choose the winning projects but Amber took the edge with her enthusiasm, interest in the project and her use of persuasive language. It was great working with the children and I hope we helped them to learn a bit about what’s involved in being an estate agent.”
